Dunn’s Mountain Park
This part features 83 acres of protected land perfect for hiking, biking, and relaxing. It’s strongly encouraged for hikers to stay on the trails to prevent damage to the surrounding wildlife. You’ll enjoy incredible scenes through the forest as you make your way up to the summit. Long-range binoculars are stationed at the top so you can see for miles on a clear day.
If you’re interested in the educational side of getting outdoors, the park also offers a real blacksmith shed that you can walk through and check out. On weekends there’s bus transportation to and from the park.
Boone’s Cave Park
Established in 1909, this park is one of the oldest in the area. It features biking trails, a disc golf course, picnic shelters, a playground, and fishing opportunities. You can spend the night at one of two rentable primitive campsites. The park is also an access point for canoes and kayaks. Make sure you get a parking pass for your Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6 if you’re planning on leaving the vehicle at the park while you kayak!
If you keep your eyes peeled, you may be able to spot Spring and Fall migratory birds. Amphibians, deer, raccoons, and wild turkeys are other critters you may encounter. If you love trees, make sure to check out the Eastern Cottonwood tree located along the shore of the Yadkin River. This massive tree is 169ft tall and the canopy is 109ft wide!
York Hill Access (Yadkin River)
We know the Yadkin River is an incredibly long, gorgeous river, so we recommend starting at the York Hill Access point. From here, you can follow the Yadkin Pee Dee River Trail, which is a 125-mile-long paddle trail. Thanks to the gradient of the river, the trail is mostly flat and can be classified as an easy paddle. There are Class II ripples in a few spots.
Depending on how far you travel, you’ll need to maneuver around two dams in the river. Fishing is permitted and you may find yourself hooking Bass, Catfish, Sunfish, and the occasional Pickerel. As always, use your best judgment on when and where to fish.
Getting outside is a great way to start or end any day. We hope these 3 great views give you a starting point to plan your relaxing trip. Stop by Cloninger Toyota today so we can help you find a car perfect for your next adventure.
