How Toyota Keeps You Safe

How Toyota Keeps You SafeThere are a lot of factors that go into a vehicle’s safety. It starts with features that prevent collisions from happening in the first place.

In Toyota, these high-tech features include the STAR™ Safety System—which is standard on every new vehicle except the Yaris iA. This 6-feature safety package improves traction and stability to help you stay on the road, even in unfavorable conditions.

Most new Toyota models also come standard with Toyota Safety Sense™. This bundle of features uses radar and cameras to help detect potential collisions before they happen. By boosting your awareness, you have a better chance to react to unexpected obstacles. In some cases, your vehicle can even react for you.

Our Toyota safety reviews dig deeper into how these and other features keep you safely on the road.

About Vehicle Safety Ratings

About Vehicle Safety RatingsAll these active and passive safety features sound great in theory—and third-party testing shows that they work well in practice, too.

Many of the models on our lot have a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). What does that mean? It means the vehicle has been proven to protect you and your passengers in a variety of crash tests.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also performs safety tests. It looks at crash prevention technology, headlight performance, and LATCH availability. The IIHS also performs its own series of crash tests.

Vehicles that perform well in each category receive the title of TOP SAFETY PICK or the even more coveted TOP SAFETY PICK+. Each year, Toyota has several models that earn one of these two awards.

Look for both these awards—5-Star Overall Safety Rating and TOP SAFETY PICK—when you’re browsing our Toyota safety reviews.
