The 2022 Toyota Sequoia's trim levels are: SR5, TRD Sport, Limited, Nightshade, Platinum, and TRD Pro. Chrome passenger rear door badges, 18-inch alloy wheels, color-keyed door handles, and color-keyed heated power outside mirrors all come standard on the Sequoia SR5. The TRD Sport offers 20-inch black alloy wheels, plus a chrome grille surrounds with a black insert. It also has integrated LED fog lights and a lower bumper opening, both with a chrome surround. The Limited variant offers 20-inch machine-finish split-spoke dark-silver-accent alloy wheels, chrome auto-dimming heated power outside mirrors with power-folding, and turn signal indicators. It also has chrome door handles and chrome body side molding. The Nightshade variant is equipped with 20-inch black split-spoke alloy wheels, a black roof rack, darkened chrome body side molding, and black Toyota rear and front logo emblems. The top-end Platinum is fully equipped with many of the best exterior elements present in prior variants. The TRD Pro offers a similar level of luxury, just with 18-inch black BBS forged aluminum TRD Pro alloy wheels.

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia offers one engine option. Under the hood rests a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that delivers 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel-drive comes standard in SR5, TRD Sport, Limited, and Nightshade trim levels. However, the TRD Pro and Platinum offer four-wheel drive standard. The Sequoia is a very powerful SUV and can tow up to 7,400 pounds when fully equipped, easily carrying a smaller camper or mid-size equipment such as boat trailers.

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia's main strength, especially on optimized models like the TRD Sport or Pro, is off-roading. However, from driveway to drive-thru, the SUV has composed handling, plus the acceleration needed to stay ahead on the highway. The Sequoia is a balanced performer overall, with a tight turn radius for its size, quick braking, and a smooth ride.

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia is a very spacious SUV, capable of holding seven or eight adults. The seven-seater option is to make room for easy-clean, premium fabric second-row captain's chairs. Limited models and up can swap out the premium cloth for genuine leather seat upholstery. The Nightshade is captain's-chairs-only with black leather upholstery. Meanwhile, the Platinum gets perforated leather and the TRD Pro gets red-stitch leather, so every trim feels unique. The 7-inch infotainment touch screen comes standard in SR5 and TRD Sport models, each sporting seven audio speakers. The Nightshade and Limited offer 12 speakers in total, but some models can bring movies to life with a 14-speaker JBL premium surround audio system.

Although a variety of other advanced safety features are available or included depending on trim, no version of the 2022 Toyota Sequoia is left out. Each model of the 2022 Sequoia comes with vehicle stability control, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and smart stop technology, along with a suite of multi-stage air bags.
