2019 Camry vs Corolla: Cargo Space

The most essential difference between the 2019 Camry and Corolla is this: The Camry is a midsize car and the Corolla is a compact car. That affects how much space you’ll find available for cargo—but that doesn’t mean the larger Camry always comes out on top.

The Corolla sedan trunk has 13 cubic feet of cargo volume. You’ll find enough space for weekly groceries in there, but the Camry sedan offers yet more space, with 14.1 cubic feet in the base trim and 15.1 cubic feet in every trim thereafter.

In the Corolla sedan, you can get up to 140 horsepower from the 1.8L 4-cylinder engine. The Corolla hatchback is a bit peppier, with 168 horsepower from a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. Either can get you from Point A to Point B reliably, but you won’t see the same thrills that the Camry offers.

On the other hand, if fuel economy is of high concern, the Corolla wins out. The hatchback sees an EPA-estimated 32 city and 42 highway MPG, keeping you away from the fuel pump for a long time.¹ The Camry is efficient, too, but its EPA-estimated 29 city and 41 highway MPG falls a bit behind in comparison.¹
