2022 Toyota Prius Prime
The 2022 Toyota Prius Prime is a car with great fuel economy. We look at reasons drivers should consider the Toyota Prius Prime.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 Prius Prime has three trims which are the LE, XLE, and the top-tier Limited. All trims are five-door compact hatchbacks. The standard LE comes with 15-inch alloy wheels and heated side mirrors. Moving up the trim levels, the XLE offers aluminum wheels with front wheel and rear wheel size of 17 inches. The top-tier Limited features LED fog lights, LED exterior accent lighting, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with an incorporated universal home remote.
Engine (Power)
Like the Toyota Prius hatchback, the Prius Prime trims all have the engine configuration of a 1.8-liter gas/electric hybrid. The battery size is 8.8 kWh with 5.5 hours of charge time at 110/120 volts. Its engine directs power through a Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT) with a front-wheel drivetrain.
Performance
For its performance, the 2022 Prius Prime, while built for gas mileage, also has the strength needed to move its smaller frame. 121 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque should serve for most drivers' daily needs. The electric mileage is an EPA-estimated 133 combined MPGe, which is the EPA equivalent of gasoline fuel efficiency for electric engines. Its gas mileage rating is an EPA-estimated 55 miles per gallon for city driving, 53 highway driving, with a 54 combined miles per gallon.
Interior
For passenger space, the Prius Prime has five seats. As for cargo, the Prius Prime has 19.8 cubic feet of space behind the back seats. Fold the seats down, and the Prime has 36.6 cubic feet of cargo space. The Prime's infotainment system is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration with Amazon Alexa compatibility. The Prius Prime's touchscreen infotanment system also includes three USB ports, a satellite radio, a CD player, Bluetooth phone/audio, and a 6-speaker sound system. For seat material, the Prime has standard cloth upholstery with optional synthetic leather upholstery. For the XLE, the Prime has black, Harvest Beige, or Moonstone SofTex Seat Trim. The top-tier trim Limited has a heated steering wheel and remote air conditioning activation.
Safety Features
The standard safety characteristics for the Prius Prime are its Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 and Toyota Safety Connect. The Safety Sense 2.0 offers several safety features as standard with forward-collision warning coupled with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian/cyclist detection, and lane-departure warning with steering assistance. Radar-based adaptive cruise control with stop/go and automatic high beams are other parts of the Safety Sense package. The Toyota Safety Connect is a 3-year subscription service that comes with the Prius Prime. With Toyota Safety Connect, Toyota's 24/7 response center is available for accidents or emergencies. Pushing a button on the dashboard alerts emergency services of the vehicle's location. The Connect alert service is automatically activated if an air bag goes off. A stolen vehicle location feature is also part of its roadside assistance services. While the Prime has a comprehensive safety package at base, drivers can also upgrade to the Limited trim to add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert standard.
